Description

This course will provide MALS students the opportunity to undertake an internship related to their track of study in nongovernmental organizations, government, private, or other policy-related institutions. Students are required to submit an application and documentation about the internship to the MALS program before they can be approved to take the internship course. Prior to a student been giving permission to enroll in the internship course, the Executive Officer or Deputy Executive Officer of the MALS Program will consult with a representative of the organization will determine with the tasks to be carried out. (These may not be clerical in nature but should involve substantial work related to the mission of the organization.) Applications are due the preceding semester before the internship is to occur.Students will devote approximately 140 hours (10 hours a week times 14 weeks) during the academic year. A designated faculty member will oversee the course and will meet regularly with students to monitor their progress and to make sure that the internship is progressing appropriately. Students will keep a weekly online report of their activities and will prepare a final report (20 pages or the length of a standard final paper) documenting the work carried out.
